Overview Team Lead, Engineering - Data Reliability role at Xero. We’re hiring for multiple Team Lead roles across our engineering teams. At Xero, we’re here to help you supercharge your business by automating routine tasks, surfacing actionable insights and connecting businesses with the right data, advisors and apps. Data Reliability Engineering: Lead the team that owns, operates, and is actively modernising Xero DB; the core database that underpins Xero's accounting engine. Lead a group of engineers who address operating this massively scaled database while safely designing and executing cloud migration and modernisation strategies. The team also develops internal tools to aid DB operations and works closely with multiple Xero product teams on their Xero DB integration. Tech stack: Database technology (preferably SQL Server), open-source options (e.g. Aurora PostgreSQL), and AWS services (e.g. RDS). Senior team location: Australia and New Zealand. This is a full-time role based in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Responsibilities People Leadership: Inspire, develop, and empower a talented team of software engineers through regular 1:1s, performance management, and career coaching. Cultivate Culture: Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment where engineers feel empowered, supported, and continuously learning. Drive Technical Excellence: Provide strong technical leadership and guidance, support the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions, contribute to architectural discussions and champion engineering best practices. Oversee Project Delivery: Work with the Technical Lead and Principal Engineers to drive planning, execution, and successful delivery of complex projects, collaborating closely with Product Owners and other stakeholders. Champion Improvement: Advocate for continuous improvement in engineering processes, automation, and continuous delivery pipelines to enhance efficiency and quality.
