Who we are The Export Standards Branch (ESB) leads technical market access negotiations and engagement with Australia's key trading partners for a range of exported agricultural and food commodities and certified products. ESB also pursues Australia's interests internationally in multilateral food safety and trade related forums and leads technical trade modernisation initiatives and collaborative projects to grow closer ties in markets. The branch has roles in the following sections: The Meat Market Access - Europe, Americas, Middle East & Africa Section contributes to strategies and trade negotiations with international trading partners in Europe, Americas, Middle East and Africa region to maintain, improve and develop new market access for trade in Australian edible meat and meat products. The Emergency Animal Disease Trade Preparedness Section reviews and critically analyses current trade conditions across ESB commodities and scientifically evaluates how these conditions can be improved to minimise disruptions to trade in the event of an emergency animal disease outbreak in Australia. This analysis contributes to the development of strategies and trade negotiations with key international trading partners. The Animal Inedible Products Market Access Section contributes to strategies and trade negotiations with international trading partners in Europe, the Middle East, North and South Americas and Africa to maintain, improve and develop new market access for trade in Australian inedible animal products, such as rendered products, pet food, skins and hides, wool, pharmaceuticals and technical products. The Science and Strategy Section supports the branch by leading the development and implementation of corporate strategies, working with market access areas to harmonise the uptake of specific market agreements and planning and driving the delivery of projects aimed at improving market access outcomes or streamlining branch business functions. The team also provides scientific advice on chemical residue/environmental contaminants and microbiological issues for a range of exported food exports. The team develops and reviews monitoring programs, leads investigations and works with market access teams and industry stakeholders to deliver outcomes. The key duties of the position include The Jobs The duties of the roles include, but are not limited to: • working on topical issues critical for the future export of Australian animal products • liaising, negotiating and effectively communicating with Australian and overseas government agencies, industry bodies and other internal and external stakeholders in support of technical market access • providing specialist advice and guidance on matters relating to animal health, biosecurity and food safety • undertaking research and developing technical submissions and briefings in support of technical market access negotiations for Australian animal products • representing the department during engagement with international trading partners and Australian industry • providing input into the development of international standards for food trade • undertaking research and responding to issues of establishment non-compliance. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
