Job Description As an Infrastructure Engineer you will implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services. The Senior Gateway Engineer uses their in-depth knowledge of specific ICT Platforms to provide expert advice on the management and maintenance of those platforms. You will work closely with the key third party suppliers to ensure the provision of a robust gateway infrastructure capability for the business, and liaise with architecture and shared services areas to ensure the security of the day-to-day technical operations. This role encompasses a broad and strategic scope of responsibilities focused on the design, implementation, and ongoing management of ICT infrastructure to meet future demands. It involves evaluating and building robust systems that support high availability, disaster recovery, and secure network operations. The position requires expert technical support across project lifecycles, including build, test, and deployment phases, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and aligned with organisational goals. A key aspect of the role is the preparation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation—such as design blueprints, implementation plans, test protocols, and support procedures—to ensure clarity, consistency, and operational efficiency. The role also contributes to the development of ICT strategies, policies, and change initiatives, actively participating in change management processes and communicating the broader implications of configuration changes across the organisation. As a subject matter expert, you will be expected to provide strategic technical advice to senior executives, mentor less experienced colleagues, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. This includes researching emerging technologies and recommending suitable products to enhance service delivery. The role also involves interagency collaboration, attending forums to influence outcomes, share insights, and build partnerships that strengthen service capabilities. Operationally, the role manages critical infrastructure components such as backup systems, patching routines, and the administration of gateway network kits, ensuring systems remain secure, updated, and optimally configured. Through strategic leadership and technical excellence, the role contributes significantly to the agency’s ICT strategy and service delivery outcomes.
