About theRole: TheAER’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) performs a critical rolein leading and delivering the day to day operational aspects of theAER, in line with the AER Board’s expectations. KeyAccountabilities and Responsibilities Provide strategicleadership and direction, including supporting the developmentof and execution of the AER’s Strategic Plan(2026–2030) and Corporate Plan, embedding a culture ofperformance, accountability, and innovation across theagency. Develop and managethe AER’s annual budget, ensuring activities areconducted within approved parameters and aligned with thestrategic priorities Lead and empowerthe senior leadership team, assigning responsibilities clearly,supervising performance and fostering a high performing,values-driven culture Maintain regularcontact with the Chair ensuring timely communication ofdevelopments that might require board-level action Oversee strategicand operational planning, identifying objectives and strategiesrequired to achieve the AER’s approved strategicplan Recommendsignificant operational changes to the Board as required,ensuring responsiveness to emerging challenges andopportunities Ensure the Board isprovided with accurate, timely and clear information andmaterials, enabling effective governance and decisionmaking Implement boardapproved policies, processes and codes, ensuring alignment withbroader APS governance frameworks Instil andreinforce the AER's purpose and values, promoting ethical andresponsible behaviour, innovation, and excellence Represent the AERexternally, providing a strong, credible presence inengagements with senior government officials, regulators,industry leaders, and consumer groups. SelectionCriteria: To besuccessful in the role you will have: Executive-levelmanagement experience and a proven track record of leadershipwithin a dynamic, complex, and multifaceted public or privatesector environment. Understanding ofthe operations of governments and regulators. Knowledge ofAustralian electricity and gas markets, and the role, purposeand objectives of the AER. Proven ability tomanage performance against budget, organisational and culturalchange, operational risk and lead innovation.
