There are approximately 130 students currently enrolled, with 68% from a Language Background Other than English (LBOTE) and approximately 5% Aboriginal. Families come from a diverse range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Currently, there are five mainstream classes and three support classes catering for students with Autism. Staff are enthusiastic and dedicated, with a wide-range of professional experience. They work together to ensure that evidence-based best practice is at the core of inclusive learning environments. Explicit teaching and implementation of the High Potential and Gifted Education and Aboriginal Education policies are a focus and are driven by collaborative professional learning. Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) underpins student wellbeing and school-based Learning and Support Team procedures. A recent revamp of processes has ensured that high expectations remains a focus across the school. This has created consistency in language improving partnerships with families. Families and the community are provided with targeted opportunities to engage with school events and are eager to contribute to future school planning. Specific Selection Criteria Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with Autism, communication challenges and complex behavioural and emotional needs. Ability to differentiate the curriculum and implement individualised learning programs that are culturally responsive, inclusive and maximise student success, communication and engagement. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as part of a collaborative team, and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents/carers, and the wider community including external agencies. Commitment to the implementation of whole school wellbeing programs that contribute to the positive management of student behaviour.
