Our client, the Department of Education, is a Commonwealth Government Department responsible for national policies and programs that help Australians access early childhood education, school education, post-school, higher education, international education and academic research. You’ll join the Student Engagement Team, which provides information to current and prospective students about higher education, including managing the Study Assist and myHELP balance websites. The team is also responsible for administration of the Government eCAF (electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form), including providing functional support to higher education providers to facilitate compliant usage. The Opportunity There are two APS6 Senior Project Officer vacancies available on labour hire contracts, starting ASAP until 30 June 2026. You’ll join an established team of motivated individuals that are mostly based in Canberra. This is an opportunity to join a team with a positive work culture and strong leadership. It will provide you with the security of a contract over Christmas and will advance your project management reporting skills in government. The Role You will work under the guidance of a Project Manager to assist with a range of administrative and operational activities supporting a series of IT projects in the Student Engagement Team. Engaging with key stakeholders to contribute to the achievement of project outcomes Work independently and proactively (anticipate, plan and deliver) project work in accordance with the project schedule and reporting deadlines Preparing and maintaining written project documentation for varying audiences and maintaining associated records to support effective decision making Undertaking various administration and coordination tasks in line with established departmental project management methodology Maintaining and using information databases (including data entry and data retrieval tasks) to support reporting, monitoring and evaluation of project tasks The Ideal Person The successful candidate will have experience in a Commonwealth Government environment coordinating project activities, monitoring progress, preparing written project documentation and drafting reports is essential. Technical IT skills are not required! You will also have: The ability to effectively organise workflow, work flexibly and collaboratively and apply strong attention to detail The ability to use sound judgement, make decisions with some autonomy for tasks of moderate difficulty and experience in supervising staff Strong liaison and relationship skills, including experience preparing written material for a wide range of stakeholders Proficiency in Microsoft Power Platform (Altus/Sensei) or a similar project management software Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and an ability to learn and build proficiency across different IT systems To be eligible for these roles, you must: Already have a Baseline security clearance Be based in Canberra (in order to attend the Canberra office) Be willing to undergo a police check Salary / Rate $65/hr - $80/hr 12% Super Two APS6-level labour hire contracts Commencing ASAP until 30 June 2026 Positions are Canberra based How to Apply To apply online, please click on the appropriate link.
