The key duties of the position include The Role An EL1 leadership position is available for motivated and high-performing communication professionals. The Media Manager within Defence Media leads a team that is the main interface with media organisations and is at the forefront of responding to media enquiries and planning for major Defence announcements and activities. You will work with stakeholders to plan, develop and deliver effective communication products and ensure consistent and accurate messaging to align with strategic communication objectives. You will initiate and adapt to change to meet current and emerging trends in the delivery of services. As our work supports the Defence media cycle and includes international stakeholders, rostered after hours work, including on weekends, is required. About our Team The Defence Media team within the Media and Information Disclosure (MID) Branch supports the Department of Defence's media, communication and public affairs objectives. The MID Branch is responsible for day-to-day media operations across Defence. MID Branch brings together media, public affairs, social media and digital media services to ensure the department's messaging is clear, consistent and high quality. Our Ideal Candidate The roles will suit effective leaders who thrive in a fast-paced, high-profile and dynamic setting. You will have: Experience and understanding of corporate communication and/or media environments. Experience managing and mentoring a diverse team to achieve quality outputs in set time-frames. Meticulous writing, editing, proofreading and verbal communication skills. Well-developed interpersonal and stakeholder management skills including the ability to cultivate and maintain productive and collaborative relationships. Ability to work across a variety of media platforms. Ability to identify opportunities to change, adapt or improve communication outputs for Defence. High-level analytical skills and a demonstrated capacity to manage multiple priorities and solve problems under pressure. Additionally, an understanding of Defence's priorities and the broader strategic environment is advantageous.
