We are seeking an experienced leader to coordinate the Climate Adaptation team within the Climate Resilience and Sustainability Unit, guiding the team to strengthen the City’s resilience to current and emerging climate risks. This role holds key decision-making responsibilities and leads the strategic direction on climate adaptation across our City. About the role You will support the delivery of the Climate Resilience and Sustainable Strategy and Implementation Plan by working collaboratively across all levels of Council. This includes integrating climate adaptation considerations into governance, land use planning, infrastructure development, community services, environmental management, and economic development. This exciting role is responsible for leading a dedicated team focused on enhancing the City’s climate resilience and adaptive capacity in response to both current and emerging climate-related risks, including physical and transition risks. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in climate risk assessment, vulnerability analysis, and adaptation planning, alongside proven project delivery, communication, and strategic planning skills. Duties for the will include (but not limited to) Effectively and efficiently lead a small team to deliver projects. Translate climate data, risk projections, and research into practical adaptation actions that are relevant and feasible for local implementation. Engage and align stakeholders across council to incorporate climate adaptation into operational planning, business cases, asset management, and investment decisions. Build strong working relationships with state and federal government departments to align local adaptation initiatives with regional and national priorities and secure funding opportunities. Secure, manage, and report on internal and external funding streams, ensuring adaptation projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in line with strategic priorities. Represent the City in public forums, professional networks, and working groups to share insights, influence best practice, and stay current with evolving adaptation science and policy We’re looking for people who have: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in climate adaptation and resilience or a related field, including skills and experience in team leadership, strategic planning and implementation. Demonstrated expertise in climate-related risks and vulnerability assessments preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a capacity to engage diverse stakeholders. Project and program management, including funding and contract oversight. Ability to tailor complex information to diverse audiences to influence and lead change across organisational boundaries.
