Grant Street Kitchen is a popular artisan bakery and café located in the heart of beautiful Port Douglas, known for its quality food, fresh ingredients, and exceptional coffee. We are currently seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our dynamic kitchen team. The Cook is responsible for creating a delicious array of baked goods and plated dishes to the high standards expected by Grant Street Kitchen. Key Responsibilities: Ensure that all food prepared and served is of a consistent high quality as per recipe and company specifications. Ensure that all food is served at a safe and appropriate temperature using temperature probes where necessary. Check the presentation of dishes and products before serving. Undertake food preparation within appropriate time frames. Maintain comprehensive product knowledge including ingredients, equipment, and current food trends and dietary requirements. Provide input into new dish development. Maintain proficient technical cookery and baking techniques. Check ingredients for freshness and flavor before serving. Ensure that food is stored and labeled correctly according to hygiene and safety standards and to control and minimize waste and loss. Take responsibility for the upkeep of the kitchen and ensure that the kitchen is well organized during service. Kitchen equipment is to be maintained and cleaned as per company requirements. Maintain legal hygiene and safety requirements for food and equipment. Have current Food Safety Certificates. The cook must have a sound understanding of dough molding and shaping. Must be able to weigh, mix, form, roll, prove and bake specific doughs consistently to the standards required by Grant Street Kitchen. Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes Trade qualified Commercial Cookery Certificate. 2 years of experience as a Cook desirable. Hold current food safety certificates. Demonstrated experience in a similar position. Able to multitask, prioritise, and manage time efficiently. Well-presented and enthusiastic, positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions. Ability to work in a hot, humid environment. Be physically fit with unrestricted ability to lift, bend, stretch & twist. Physical activities include walking, talking, standing, stooping, hearing, seeing, bending, reaching, feeling, writing, grasping, handling, stretching, balancing, pushing, and pulling. Exceptional teamwork skills and ability to also work with minimal/no supervision. Flexible approach to work with willingness and ability to demonstrate initiative and accept responsibility. Ability to take constructive feedback and improve on areas needed as directed by management.
