The Role: As the Insurance Specialist, you will provide expert advice on complex, insurance risks. This is a critical role with broad scope, supporting the end-to-end delivery of insurance operations, including policy development, renewals, complex claims management and insights reporting for the Board. Further to this, key responsibilities include: Provide expert advice on commercial insurance solutions, including public liability, cyber and environmental risks; Oversight of personal injury and liability claims, ensuring alignment with internal procedures and legal requirements; Support the development of tailored renewal proposals for complex insurance contracts; Evaluate and negotiate claim settlements in line with delegated authority; Monitor market trends and regulatory changes, adjusting practices to maintain effective protection; Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, insurers and internal stakeholders; Lead policy administration including new policies, amendments and premium collections; Support Board reporting through the provision of data-driven insights and analysis; Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of fit-for-purpose insurance and risk strategies; and Report on claims and insurance performance, identifying trends and translating findings into actionable recommendations. The Urban Utilities are looking for: The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced insurance specialist, capable of working independently and providing guidance to others. With strong analytical skills and expertise in negotiating solutions, you will support key stakeholders in managing complex insurance matters. You will have a comprehensive understanding of risk management processes and the ability to make informed decisions. Requirements: Tertiary qualification in risk management or a related discipline (highly desirable); Diploma of General Insurance; Strong experience in insurance roles, ideally within an internal, corporate function; An understanding of complex claims management including public liability; Ability to work independently and mentor junior colleagues; Strong negotiation skills and ability to guide others in reaching consensus; Experience in managing project and program risks; Willingness to perform ‘on call’ duties as required; and Ability to analyse data, identify issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
