Description We are currently recruiting an Innovation Portfolio Specialist to join our Assets and Digital division on a 12-month fixed term contract. This role reports to the Innovation Senior Analyst and plays a critical role in managing the end-to-end innovation process across Essential Energy. This role can be based anywhere within our Operational Footprint. The Innovation Portfolio Specialist ensures governance, agility, and visibility across all innovation activities—from idea triage and validation to portfolio oversight and budget tracking. This role supports the successful transition of innovation initiatives into Business-As-Usual (BAU) operations and contributes to the continuous improvement of our innovation operating model. Key Responsibilities Oversee the complete innovation lifecycle and enhance the operating model. Develop and maintain agile governance practices and standards. Manage innovation budgets, forecasts, and investment planning. Prepare and present monthly reports and strategic insights to stakeholders. Lead select innovation initiatives from concept to implementation. Support idea capture and triage, prioritising based on strategic alignment and feasibility. Coordinate initiative closeout activities and lessons learned sessions. Manage legal agreements with external parties (NDAs, MoUs). Maintain innovation policies, procedures, and reporting packs for governance bodies. Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in alignment with Essential Energy’s Code of Conduct. About You As an Innovation Portfolio Specialist, you will bring strong analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for driving innovation. You will be experienced in managing complex portfolios, engaging stakeholders, and delivering strategic outcomes in dynamic environments. Required Qualifications/Skills Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Innovation, Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience. Proven experience in innovation, strategy, or project/portfolio management. Experience in large organisations or transformation teams. Strong financial acumen and executive-level reporting capabilities. Familiarity with innovation methodologies (design thinking, lean startup, agile). Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and organisational skills. Desirable: IAP2 Certification or equivalent. Project/Portfolio Management qualifications (e.g., MSP, PRINCE2, Agile PM).
