The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities. What Will You Do? In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Criminal Law Practice. The Administration Officer, Criminal Law Practice Supports high-quality legal services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients by managing court rosters, client files, data entry, and reception duties, while liaising with legal professionals and stakeholders. You will: Organise client files for court, manage CMS data entry (including opening/closing files), and maintain court rosters. Provide administrative and secretarial support, including word processing, document preparation, photocopying, and managing communications. Manage reception and phone system operations from 9:00am to 5:00pm, ensuring a professional and well-maintained office environment. Liaise with legal professionals, stakeholders, and clients, and assist with non-court matters and referrals (e.g., civil clinics). Ensure compliance with ALS policies, WHS legislation, and uphold ethical, inclusive, and culturally respectful practices. Collaborate effectively with team members and participate in training and other duties as required. Who Are We Looking For? A highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be able to demonstrate: Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and demonstrate cultural awareness, respect, and understanding of our First Nation communities. Strong commitment to social justice and ability to behave in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) with typing speed of at least 35 wpm. Excellent communication skills, professional phone manner, and experience with switchboard operations. Strong organisational, time management, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently and confidentially.
