The key duties of the position include The Role This position supports the development of an assurance program for Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG) through development of a multi-stage assurance program and support tools across six internal Divisions. This position will ensure the delivery of WHS assurance compliance that supports the Deputy Secretary NSSG's due diligence obligations. The position offers you the opportunity to work within a larger national WHS team of likeminded and dedicated WHS professionals, and provides the opportunity for further academic studies, training and professional memberships. You will: Identify and respond to stakeholders' needs and expectations related to WHS matters to achieve outcomes; Provide advice, collaborate and communicate with stakeholders on complex assurance and WHS issues; Apply relevant work health and safety legislation, Defence policies and procedures regarding ships and other vessels in a maintenance environment; and Recommend viable solutions and prevention strategies to address identified work health and safety issues. The Working Environment Includes: Computer Use; Generic screen based; Sitting at desk; Distance walking (i.e. large building or inter-building transit); Requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE); Peaks & Troughs. About our Team The NSSG WHSE corporate team is located in Canberra, is primarily an office-based team but has the flexibility to work remotely, including interstate. The successful applicant will lead the WHS Assurance Program that will also include other WHS tasking within the Team. The role is intended to support on-site level WHS compliance, and you should be physically capable of entry into ships via ladders and gangways, including being on your feet for several consecutive days over 1-2 weeks. The role will involve planned but infrequent travel. NSSG WHS is a challenging work environment that enables the WHS Assurance Manager to contribute to strategic planning, governance and assurance activities. Our Ideal Candidate You will have demonstrated experience in WHS Assurance, and have achieved professional WHS specific qualifications. You will be able to undertake both compliance assurance at industrial sites and systems assurance in a corporate environment. You must have: Demonstrated strategic and analytical skills in a WHS environment; Strong organisational skills and flexibility to adapt to evolving work priorities; Interpersonal skills suitable for engagement at industrial sites with managers and with senior leaders; Excellent writing skills, including the ability to develop assurance reports, translate findings from analysis across assurance activities to written reports, oral presentations or dashboards that may be delivered to senior executives; and Verifiable experience across maritime or industrial environments and familiarity with high risk work.
