The key duties of the position include The Role Leading the Directorate of Concepts and Capability at the Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC), your role is to generate civil-military-police knowledge across the Australian Government, international partners and the non-government sector for application in domestic and international disaster, crisis and conflict settings. As Director, you will lead and mentor a team to: Commission and manage research projects to increase civil-military-police understanding and preparedness. Evaluate and advise on domestic, regional and international civil-military-police engagement best practice. Develop best practice civil-military-police guidance, teaching and learning products for Australian Government and non-government practitioners. Contribute to the whole-of-government lessons framework for crisis prevention, preparedness, and response and recovery activities. Conduct cross-agency lessons projects as required. Build and maintain effective relationships across the sector in the support of the above. About our Team ACMC's mission is to strengthen Australian and regional civil-military-police capacity and capability to respond more effectively to crises and contingencies. In implementing its mission, the ACMC promotes better practice civil-military-police coordination and interactions to achieve operational objectives. ACMC is a small dynamic organisation with approximately 25 staff drawn from permanent staff from the Department of Defence, augmented by secondees from Australian Government departments and agencies, the New Zealand Government, and the Australian Council for International Development. The Directorate of Concepts and Capability is the knowledge and content hub for ACMC. The directorate is responsible for the identification, research, investigation and dissemination of new and emerging civil-military-police concepts, that develops new knowledge, address knowledge gaps, identify good practice, and provide practical outcomes to inform policy and support practitioners. This includes knowledge and capability development to support responses to conflict and disasters nationally and in the region. The directorate brings expert and evidence based content to a range of publications, programs and learning opportunities that support the development of civil-military-police capability. Our Ideal Candidate We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Director to be part of ACMC's leadership team. You will: Demonstrate knowledge and/or experience in roles requiring civil-military-police engagement and interaction, such as planning, exercising and/or operations. Understand frameworks, government decision-making and/or agency guidelines and regulations related to Australia's management of disaster, crisis and conflict. Develop and manage an effective team and allocated resources to deliver against organisational objectives. Have experience managing budgets, procurement and contracts, and understanding of research processes. Build and maintain effective partnerships with stakeholders. Have outstanding communication skills, including presentations and public speaking.
