Role Snapshot Lead architecture of grid-connected and islanded microgrid projects across the Melbourne distribution network Integrate renewable generation, storage, and control systems into secure, compliant, and customer-centric solutions Shape investment and delivery models aligned to regulatory frameworks and consumer expectations Work within a high-performing energy transition team focused on technical and commercial innovation About the Company Our client is a regulated electricity distribution network operator servicing Melbourne’s metropolitan and urban expansion zones. They specialise in integrating advanced distributed energy resources (DER) to enhance network reliability, flexibility, and resilience. With a strategic focus on microgrid deployment, renewable integration, and battery energy storage systems, they drive innovation in grid-edge technologies and operational optimisation. The company actively develops and implements solutions compliant with evolving regulatory frameworks, leveraging power system modelling, control systems engineering, and real-time grid management to support the transition to a decentralised, low-emission energy network. The Role This newly created role will lead the end-to-end architecture and technical development of microgrid and embedded network projects. You’ll define how distributed energy resources (DER), storage, control systems, and customer-facing technologies integrate to meet network and regulatory requirements. Working across planning, regulation, and operations teams, you’ll act as the technical lead on microgrid design and performance modelling, providing inputs into investment cases, regulatory submissions, and delivery partnerships. This role suits someone experienced in power system modelling, distributed energy integration, and grid-edge control systems. Key Responsibilities Lead technical architecture for microgrid and embedded network projects across the distribution network Develop system models, performance simulations, and control logic for renewable generation, battery storage, and load balancing Specify and evaluate DER technologies including inverters, EMS, and real-time monitoring systems Ensure compliance with safety, quality, regulatory, and grid connection standards Collaborate with regulatory, commercial, and planning teams on project scoping and business cases Interface with technology vendors, integrators, and engineering partners to support detailed design and commissioning Contribute to innovation strategies, pilot projects, and technical standards development related to decentralised energy Skills and Experience 7 years’ experience in distributed energy systems, grid-edge technology, or power systems engineering Strong technical expertise in microgrid design, distributed generation, and DER integration Proficient in power system modelling and simulation tools (e.g. DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, or similar) Understanding of grid codes, connection standards, protection coordination, and real-time controls Familiarity with EMS, SCADA, inverter technologies, and hybrid power architectures Experience working with regulated network businesses or in a regulated asset environment Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders What’s on Offer Join a recognised leader in Australia’s energy transition Shape the future of microgrid development and urban energy resilience Work on cutting-edge projects at the intersection of innovation, regulation, and technology Permanent, full-time role with strong internal support and high visibility Competitive salary package and flexible hybrid working arrangements How to Apply D’Arcy Weil is supporting our long-standing client, a leading energy innovator, in their search for a Microgrid Solution Architect.
