Assistant Director, Complex Case and Employee Relations Location: Canberra (Hybrid/WFH) Rate: $79.29 - $104.07 per hour super Contract Duration: ASAP – 28 November 2025 (pending cleared Police Check) We’re partnering with a leading government directorate to recruit an Assistant Director, Complex Case and Employee Relations to join their Wellbeing and Case Support team. This contract role offers the opportunity to lead high-level employee relations advisory and case management work within a dynamic, people-focused team. This is a pivotal position providing specialist guidance across complex HR matters, including performance management, misconduct, workplace disputes and broader employee conduct. You'll be responsible for delivering expert support to leaders and staff, managing sensitive investigations, and ensuring alignment with relevant legislation and ACT Government policy frameworks. You'll play a key role in shaping a positive, high-integrity workplace culture, working across a range of strategic and operational initiatives, from advising on policy to building leadership capability and delivering training. Key responsibilities: Provide expert advice on workplace conduct, disputes, and employee relations issues. Lead or support investigations into misconduct, underperformance, and inappropriate behaviour. Apply ACT Government policy and procedures to ensure procedural fairness and compliance. Coach and support managers on performance management and positive culture-building. Contribute to the review and development of HR policies, guidelines and strategic uplift materials. Deliver training sessions and practical tools to support best practice case management. Collaborate with key stakeholders and maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters. Support broader HR initiatives and case support strategies across the organisation. About you: We’re looking for an experienced HR practitioner who thrives in a complex and fast-paced environment. You’ll have sound judgement, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You’ll be someone who takes initiative, adapts to change, and brings a high level of integrity and discretion to your work. Skills & experience: Demonstrated experience in complex HR case management, employee relations, or workplace investigations. Strong knowledge of ACT Government HR frameworks, including misconduct and behaviours policy. Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills. Proven ability to develop and implement HR policies and contribute to strategic projects. High level of emotional intelligence and understanding of confidentiality protocols. Experience working autonomously in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities. Highly regarded: Experience in ACT Government HR environments. Tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management. Strong understanding of enterprise agreements, policy frameworks, and legislative compliance.
