Mobile Service Technician – Rail Equipment Location: Melbourne, VIC Employment Type: Full-Time Industry: Rail & Aviation About the Company A well-established and expanding national distributor and service provider of specialist freight handling equipment is seeking a skilled Mobile Service Technician to join its Melbourne-based team. This business services a wide range of rail assets and shunting vehicles, supporting critical transport and logistics operations across Australia. The Role As a Mobile Service Technician, you'll play a key role in the field service, diagnostics, and maintenance of mobile rail equipment - particularly shunting vehicles. This role is hands-on and varied, involving fault-finding, commissioning, mechanical servicing, and minor repairs both in the field and occasionally in the workshop. You will support high-profile clients across rail networks, applying your knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and diesel systems to keep essential equipment operational and safe. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems Complete scheduled servicing, repairs, and inspections on mobile shunting vehicles Perform commissioning and testing of new or upgraded equipment Carry out OEM service bulletins, upgrades, and warranty work Support system upgrades involving PLCs, HMI, CanBus, and electric drives Provide remote troubleshooting support where needed Manage your job scheduling and maintain accurate service records You’ll Bring A strong mechanical background, ideally in mobile equipment or heavy vehicles Solid diagnostic and fault-finding skills The ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics Experience working with diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems Previous exposure to PLCs, CanBus, or 80VDC electric drives (advantageous) A proactive, independent work ethic and customer-first attitude Requirements Trade Certificate in Mechanical or Auto Electrical (minimum) Current Driver’s Licence and valid Passport Willingness to undertake drug and alcohol testing as required Flexibility to travel for service work across VIC and occasionally interstate What’s on Offer Competitive salary package including company-maintained vehicle OEM training and ongoing professional development A mix of field and workshop work with national client exposure A supportive and technically skilled team environment Opportunity to work with industry-leading rail equipment across Australia
