The Garvan Institute has a strong history of basic science and translational immunology research supported by state-of-the-art imaging, gene-editing, genomic and data science technology platforms. It is located in the St Vincent’s Health Innovation Precinct and has a strong collaborative relationship with the Clinical Immunologists and clinicians at St Vincent’s Hospital, providing a fast-track to both access critical unique cohorts and human tissue samples and also to perform investigator-initiated clinical studies and trials. The current major focus of the Immunology Programs is to discover the fundamental control mechanisms that regulate immune responses in immunity, autoimmunity, allergy and cancer and to develop the next-generation of precision biotherapies to target them to treat and prevent disease. The Garvan Institute invites applicants for Faculty-level positions in the Immune Biotherapies and Precision Immunology Programs. The applicant will have a clear research program that aims to solve fundamental questions in immunology with incisive, state-of-the-art tools and techniques. They will have demonstrated an aptitude for independent, creative thinking and a strong track record, relative to opportunity and career stage, of high quality scientific output. A generous start-up package will be provided to encourage the pursuit of high risk/high reward research with transformative potential. We welcome local and international applicants at all career stages with strong alignment with the Garvan Institute’s vision for immunology research. We especially welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and those seeking the academic freedom to pursue discovery research wherever it takes them.
