We are currently looking for a Scientific Attendant to support teaching and research in the School of Environment and Science’s Gold Coast laboratories. The position will be primarily supporting teaching activities and, on occasion, also assisting in research laboratories and engagement activities. The role also includes the upkeep of laboratory documentation and assisting with H&S compliance. As a Scientific Attendant, you will take on complex challenges, using your skills and experience to drive meaningful change. Here’s how you’ll make it matter: Provide technical operations support to the work area including set-up and dismantling of experiments, the preparation of reagents and samples for teaching laboratories and assisting preparations for field trips. Assist with regular calibration, minor maintenance and service scheduling of all relevant instrumentation and equipment, ensuring readiness for practical classes. Obtain quotes and purchase labware and consumables required for undergraduate practicals and core facilities through the university’s procurement systems. Assist in the update of associated laboratory documentation including laboratory resource statements, risk assessments, instrument manuals, and standard operating protocols. Provide administrative laboratory support including managing inventories of equipment, glassware, and specimens. You will also have: An Associate Diploma in a science related area or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Ability to learn and apply techniques for preparing reagents, handling samples, and setting up/dismantling experiments to support teaching and fieldwork activities. Experience or willingness to develop skills in maintaining, calibrating, and scheduling service for laboratory equipment to ensure operational readiness. Experience or capacity to learn inventory management, procurement processes, and updating laboratory documentation such as risk assessments. Understanding of, or interest in learning, health and safety practices in laboratory environments, with a proactive approach to supporting outreach and engagement events. An Australian Drivers Licence (Open or Provisional) What we can offer This is a continuing, full time position primarily based at Griffith University Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples. Salary Range The full time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 4 range $73,623 - $77,680 per annum 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $86,139 - $90,886 per annum.
