The Chemistry Centre is one of Queensland's oldest environmental laboratories, boasting over 120 accredited environmental analytical methods with a focus on the analysis of water, soil, plants, and air. The Centre plays a crucial role in supporting the Queensland Government's environmental monitoring programs and strategic projects across various government departments, universities, nonprofits, and for profit organisations. In this position, you will need to have knowledge of chemistry and analytical chemistry, as well as the ability to research scientific topics. You will develop and perform analytical chemistry methodologies under the guidance of the Senior Chemist. You will learn to think strategically, solve problems and may be required to work collaboratively with peers and supervise technical and operational staff. This position requires:- Experience in analytical chemistry, method development, and techniques related to the analysis of water, soil, plants, and sediments (preferably within a commercial laboratory environment); and high competency in operating high-end analytical instruments.- The ability to think strategically to solve problems, show initiative, and take responsibility for your work.- Demonstrated experience in the use of databases as well as Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), statistical, and word-processing software.- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team environment and to contribute to a high-quality, timely, and efficient laboratory operation.- Demonstrated ability to follow work plans and see tasks through to completion.- Contribution to workplace equity and diversity, which enriches our culture of safety, innovation, respect, and inclusion.
