THE OPPORTUNITY Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Executive Director Safety and Quality and Consumer Engagement contributes to decision making on whole of health issues as part of the SMHS Area Executive Group, and leads the strategic direction and planning for safety, quality and consumer engagement for the health service. The role is responsible and accountable for analysis and provision of high-level expert advice on key safety, quality, consumer engagement and patient experience within the health service, and at a State and National level. The role leads the SMHS Clinical Governance, Safety and Quality Improvement, Consumer Engagement and Patient Experience Programs. The successful candidate will have a unique and career defining opportunity to lead the partnership of SMHS with the internationally renowned Virginia Mason Institute (VMI) in the development and implementation of a SMHS Quality Management Program. THE CANDIDATE The successful candidate will need to demonstrate: Experience in a complex healthcare environment having led and managed services associated with the promotion, maintenance and improvement of safety and quality, consumer engagement and patient experience. A track record of driving progressive change at the organisational level in the delivery of safety and quality programs and the ability to influence others to continually improve the delivery of health care. The ability to form relationships and have credibility with internal and external stakeholders as the SMHS leader for engagement with the System Manager and other Health Service Providers in Safety, Quality and Consumer Engagement to support system-wide improvement. Experience in providing high-level expert advice and support to the Chief Executive and other Area executives through analysis and assessment of trends and emerging issues. The ability to establish, lead and direct the clinical governance program for the Area within a clinical governance framework. An understanding and commitment to consumer engagement and the ability to lead and direct the management and coordination of the Area’s consumer engagement participation programs.
