About The Role The City of Melbourne is seeking a savvy Solution Architect — someone who lives and breathes AWS — to design and deliver cutting-edge technology solutions that drive real business value. As we embark on a major program to exit our legacy data centre and migrate to AWS, this pivotal role will help lead that transformation. As a Solution Architect -Infrastructure and Cloud you will bridge the gap between strategic goals and digital innovation, ensuring our platforms are cloud-native, secure, scalable, and high-performing — all while enhancing the customer experience at every turn. You’ll work closely with stakeholders, contribute to governance forums, and play a key role in assessing emerging technologies to keep CoM ahead of the curve. You Will Lead the architectural design for a modern, continuous pricing platform to replace legacy systems. Develop and champion intelligent pricing models that are dynamic, scalable, and customer-centric. Align cross-functional teams, ensuring cohesive technical direction across product, engineering, and business stakeholders. Drive architectural consistency, ensuring alignment with broader enterprise standards and strategic objectives. Influence at the highest levels, regularly presenting architectural updates and recommendations to SteerCo and senior leadership. Support data-driven customer segmentation, ensuring the solution architecture enables personalisation and revenue optimisation. You will bring Tertiary qualification in Technology or related field, with demonstrated experience in solution architecture specifically AWS and on-premise datacentre (VMWare). Proven track record in designing technical and customer-focused solutions that align with strategic business goals. Expertise in architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman) and driving modern practices (SAFe), with knowledge of AWS cloud, microservices, and API-driven architectures. Strong collaboration skills with both business and technical stakeholders to enhance customer outcomes and operational efficiency. Experience in architecture governance, including ARB and ARG participation, and documentation (Key Design Documents, Solution Architectures and Solution Designs). Ability to evaluate and recommend technologies that support business objectives and improve customer satisfaction. Clear communicator, adept at presenting complex technical concepts to business stakeholders. Experience managing architectural risks and ensuring solutions meet security, scalability, and performance standards. Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills for external engagements.
