We are looking for a Senior Tax Adviser to join the Group Tax Team on a 12-month fixed term basis , commencing ASAP. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for performing income tax compliance & reporting and providing tax advice for Rio Tinto’s operations in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Singapore, working with a range of stakeholders across the wider business, with a particular focus on driving process improvements and automation solutions. Reporting to the Tax Manager and working in a collaborative and diverse team within the broader Group Tax Team, you will be responsible for: Day to day communication with key stakeholders for assigned entities/operations on income tax related matters Preparation of income tax returns for assigned entities/operations Preparation of tax effect accounting calculations for assigned entities/operations for group reporting, local statutory accounts and planning & forecasting purposes Preparation of income tax advice and supporting workpapers for transactions and/or projects as required, including preparation of tax accounting & technical advice papers, system changes and reporting outcomes Supporting the ongoing implementation of a new financial reporting and consolidation system from an income tax perspective Identification and implementation of process improvement initiatives, with a particular focus on consistency & standardization Maintaining strong & collaborative working relationships with members of the Group Tax Team, broader Finance Team and relevant site personnel Understand and apply accounting standards, particularly in respect of tax Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements Identify and escalate areas of tax risk Assisting with audits, reviews and submissions with tax authorities Ensure adherence to the Group’s tax governance framework Be a leader among peers by demonstrating best practice and continuously seeking efficiency and improvement Liaise with external consultants as required About You To be successfully considered for this role, you must have A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team Ability to quickly develop an understanding of commercial operations and business context Ability to work independently and take responsibility for management of assigned entities/operations Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, including prioritizing competing tasks, and ability to maintain efficiency while producing accurate work Ability to meet deadlines and provide advice on a timely basis Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team environment Impeccable attention to detail Ability to work effectively with the broader Finance Team to understand accounting positions taken and determination of appropriate tax technical positions Sound judgment in dealing with questions from internal & external stakeholders and ability to concisely explain technical tax concepts Excellent written and oral communication skills Aptitude for improving or automating processes and workflows by using technology tools such as Power BI A minimum of 3 years post professional qualification experience gained in a large professional services firm in corporate tax or within a commercial tax environment, or equivalent experience gained within the ATO Professional accounting or tax designation, Law / Commerce / Taxation degree or equivalent background Technically strong with solid knowledge and experience in Australian tax law (experience with NZ, PNG and/or Singapore tax law as well would be an advantage) CCH Integrator, SAP and/or Tagetik experience is desirable Experience with tax audits and/or dealing with tax authorities What we offer We are committed to providing our employees with a generous benefits package.
