The Executive Director, Operations, Performance, and Quality (the ED) is a new position reporting to the Health Ombudsman.
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring public health and safety and achieving the Office of the Health Ombudsman's strategic goals and objectives.
You will be responsible for the effective and efficient oversight and management of serious and high-risk matters, as well as cross-functional service delivery.
Specifically, you will oversee the operations of the Immediate Action and Monitoring and Compliance Teams, along with policy, advisory, executive functions, stakeholder engagement, and driving performance and quality improvement.
The Office of the Health Ombudsman is an independent statutory body established to protect and support the community through responsive complaints processes and regulatory action, driving positive change and confidence in the health system.
This involves representing the Health Ombudsman and managing key stakeholder relationships including the Ministers Office, Parliamentary Committee, AHPRA and the National Boards, and other regulatory and statutory bodies.
You will provide high-level advice to the Health Ombudsman on serious and high-risk matters, including decisions relating to immediate action and public statements. It is essential for you to have a comprehensive understanding of legislative frameworks, relevant codes of conduct and healthcare standards to identify issues of risk, clinical performance and conduct which may require regulatory responses. You will develop practice approaches across the Office of the Health Ombudsman functions that reflect the Office's values and strategic and operational objectives. You will ensure the Office's policies and practices reflect person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally safe approaches, and legislative requirements.
This role involves close collaboration with other divisions and the implementation of cross-functional strategies to ensure that the Office's actions are well-coordinated and informed by pertinent legal and clinical advice. Given the close working relationship with the Health Ombudsman, the other Executive Directors, and various stakeholders, it is crucial that you are a cooperative, adaptable, and composed professional with an engaging personality. In this key position, you must possess qualities such as strong resilience, sound judgment, and critical thinking to effectively manage complex and sensitive issues.
You will lead a team to deliver quality improvement processes, including service delivery complaints, and key projects to enhance and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the complaints and regulatory functions.
You will of course bring a deep knowledge and understanding of complaints, regulatory and risk management processes including experience in the application of legislative requirements within the context of assessing and prioritising high risk and serious matters.
