Learning Tree Education & Coaching | Woree & Smithfield, Cairns QLD Learning Tree Education & Coaching is seeking high-quality Tutors to join our team on a casual basis at our Cairns tutoring centres. We are looking for applicants who are confident supporting students in one or more of the following areas: High School Mathematics (Essential, General & Methods) Physics A combination of these subject areas For high school tutoring roles, applicants should have strong subject knowledge and confidence supporting students across relevant senior subject pathways. This role is best suited to someone who is academically capable, reliable, professional, and genuinely committed to helping students grow in confidence, understanding, and independence. About the Role You will deliver tutoring sessions in a supportive and professional learning environment, helping students strengthen their literacy and/or numeracy skills, build confidence, and improve their academic performance. The successful applicant will be able to explain concepts clearly, adapt their approach to suit different students, and maintain high expectations while building positive rapport. Tutors may work with students across primary and/or high school levels depending on their experience, subject strengths, and suitability. Key Responsibilities Deliver tutoring sessions in Mathematics and/or English Support students to build understanding, confidence, independence, and problem-solving skills Work with students from primary and/or high school levels Tailor support to each student’s learning needs, academic goals, and current school requirements Explain concepts clearly and in a way students can understand Provide clear, constructive feedback to students Maintain accurate student progress notes Communicate professionally with staff and families where required Uphold strong academic and behavioural expectations during tutoring sessions Contribute to a positive, calm, and encouraging learning environment Subject Areas Applicants may be suited to one or more of the following areas: High School Mathematics Applicants interested in high school Mathematics tutoring should be confident supporting students in a combination of: General Mathematics Mathematical Methods Specialist Mathematics They should be able to explain mathematical concepts clearly, support problem-solving development, assist with school content and assessments, and help students build confidence and independence. Additional Subject Areas It is highly desirable for applicants to be able to support at least one additional subject area, ideally to a Year 10 level and beyond . This may include, but is not limited to: Science Biology Chemistry Physics Humanities Business Economics Study skills and assessment support Applicants who are confident across both Maths and English, across both primary and high school levels, or across multiple subject areas will be viewed favourably. About You We are looking for someone who is professional, reliable, and able to connect well with students. The ideal applicant will have: Strong knowledge in Mathematics For high school Mathematics: confidence in General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, and/or Specialist Mathematics The ability to support an additional subject area to Year 10 level or beyond, desirable but not essential The ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently Experience working with children or young people Strong written and verbal communication skills Sound organisation and attention to detail The ability to take initiative and work independently The ability to build positive rapport with students A calm, encouraging, and professional manner A genuine commitment to student growth and development Preferred Academic Background Highly regarded applicants will have: Strong academic performance in Mathematics Confidence tutoring primary and/or high school students Tertiary study in Education, English, Literature, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Psychology, or a related field Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coaching, or youth experience The ability to support students across multiple subject areas The ability to support an additional subject area to Year 10 level and beyond Personal Attributes We are seeking someone who is: Professional and composed Patient and encouraging Reliable and accountable Detail-oriented and adaptable Confident working with students of different abilities Able to maintain high standards Genuinely passionate about helping students succeed Position Details Casual position In-person role based at our Cairns tutoring centres Locations: Windarra Street, Woree QLD Faculty Close, Smithfield QLD Afternoon availability required during school terms Saturday availability may be viewed favourably Additional hours may be available during school holiday programs Competitive hourly rate based on experience, academic capability, and suitability for the role.
