The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come. The Contract Management Officer plays a key role in supporting the effective administration and management of the contract between ASA and the Australian shipbuilder for the SSN AUKUS program. Working within a complex, high value, and early stage program environment, you will contribute to ensuring contractual rights and obligations are clearly understood, consistently applied, and aligned with program objectives. You will support the development of considered contractual positions through analysis of contract terms and engagement across technical, legal, commercial, and program stakeholders. This role provides the opportunity to apply and develop strong contract management and legal interpretation skills while contributing to a nationally significant program. You will: Support the administration of the head contract with the Australian shipbuilder, ensuring contractual rights, obligations, and processes are understood and applied; Analyse and interpret complex contract documentation, including key clauses, mechanisms, and obligations, to inform advice and decision making; Draft and coordinate formal contractual correspondence, including notices, responses, and clarifications, ensuring accuracy and alignment with contractual requirements; Provide clear and well reasoned advice on contractual interpretation, risks, and implications; Support the development of coordinated contractual positions, drawing on input from legal, technical, commercial, and program stakeholders; Assist in managing contractual issues, including supporting responses to queries, variations, and emerging risks; Maintain contract records, registers, and documentation in line with governance, audit, and compliance requirements; Support the assessment and tracking of contract variations, claims, and deliverables; Ensure contract management activities are documented, consistent, and aligned to agreed processes and frameworks; Identify contractual risks and support the development of mitigation strategies; Build and maintain effective working relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders as required; Contribute to continuous improvement of contract management processes, templates, and practices. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in ASA as a Building Capability Payment (BCP). This enables ASA to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the ASA Enterprise Agreement, for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to ASA capability. About our Team We sit within the SSN-AUKUS Acquisition Branch in the Program Delivery Directorate, supporting the SSN AUKUS program through strong systems, reporting, and governance. Our role is to act as an informed client, providing oversight, insight, and assurance to support effective decision-making and protect public investment. We focus on keeping delivery, reporting, and decision-making aligned between ASA and the shipbuilder. This includes making sure work is understood, progress is clear, and senior leaders have the information they need to make decisions. We maintain strong day-to-day links across organisations so issues are identified early and managed effectively.
