The opportunity We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Business Development Manager to join our Clients & Markets team, based in Sydney. In this role you will be responsible for providing high quality and proactive business development support to partners, lawyers and business services staff to enable Norton Rose Fulbright to deliver seamless client service and ensure the smooth operation of our legal practice teams. Reporting to the Head of Business Development and managing a team of 2 Business Development Managers you will be focussed on supporting NRF’s market leading Banking and Restructuring practice groups. Broadly your role will involve: Practice Area Responsibility Work closely with key partner stakeholders in the Banking & Finance, Restructuring and Risk Advisory practice on developing and executing BD strategy, pursuits and campaigns. Support individual partners and the overall practice to achieve revenue targets through new and existing initiatives. Coach junior and senior lawyers on BD skills and assist with identifying opportunities to grow their BD capability. Manage relationships with key industry associations. Business Development Collaboration Collaborate with other BD programme leaders around processes such as business planning for practice teams and budget setting for practice teams Oversee and reinforce Practice group participation and representation in global/strategic marketing, BD and communications projects Support the BD team in driving collaborative effort for cross-practice bids and tender submissions Champion Practice group adherence to procedure and best practice with firm systems including InterAction, Qorus Docs, Athena and Bid Support Assisting in the follow up of any specific actions arising from client feedback and assessing how the feedback can be used to drive positive behavioural change across the practice Assist in the assessment of fee earner skill levels in relation to BD and Marketing and provide coaching to fee earners Ensure Practice group opportunities and activities are being captured in firm systems and communicated to other BD programme leaders Work collaboratively with the Communications, Digital, Marketing and Events teams to deliver Practice group campaigns. People & Development Oversees direct or indirect reports to plan, prioritise and deliver Clients & Markets operational activities. Financial Collaborate with other Senior BD Managers in the process of setting Marketing budgets for Practice Groups and support their ongoing management by working closely with the BD Co-ordinators, the team leaders and other Senior BD Managers. Awareness of Practice BD spend against budget and flag any potential issues that may arise. Requirements At least 5 years’ BD managerial experience in a law firm or corporate environment. Expertise in developing BD strategy, implementing BD programs, and leading cross practice pursuits. Ideally, has experience supporting Banking & Finance and/or Restructuring practices Collaborative, commercially minded, able to align work outcomes with firm strategy. Client service-orientated focus with the ability to professionally communicate with internal and external clients at all levels. Proven ability to effectively manage others by delegating effectively, providing regular feedback and guidance. Supports the career development of team members. Strong written and verbal communication skills including proven ability to draft non-routine correspondence and documentation.
