With a rapidly expanding footprint across North America and APAC, they are adding to their legal team and looking to appoint their first Legal Counsel in Australia. About the role This is a rare opportunity to step into the first Legal Counsel role in Australia within a scaling technology business. In this autonomous role, you will be a trusted advisor to the business while supporting commercial outcomes. Your key responsibilities will include: Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements (including SaaS contracts, MSAs, SOWs, NDAs, and partnerships) Partnering with commercial teams on deal structuring and negotiations Advising on data privacy, cybersecurity, and evolving AI governance frameworks Supporting compliance with applicable privacy laws across jurisdictions Working cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to embed privacy-by-design Assisting with corporate governance and broader legal and compliance initiatives This is a highly visible role where you will be involved in decision-making at an early stage. About you You are a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys working close to the business in a fast paced and unstructured environment. You will bring: 5-10 years’ PQE. Solid experience from a reputable law firm. Any in-house experience is advantageous. A strong background in commercial contracts and negotiating complex agreements. Solid grounding in data privacy, cybersecurity, or regulatory frameworks. The ability to translate legal complexity into clear, practical advice. A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to operate autonomously. Any experience or a strong interest in technology, SaaS, or emerging areas such as AI governance will be highly regarded.
