An exciting permanent opportunity exists within the Department of Transport and Main Roads for a Principal Planner to contribute to major multi modal transport planning projects across Queensland. Working within the Major Planning Projects team, you will support high profile initiatives and help shape an integrated, safe and efficient transport network. The Principal Planner applies advanced project management expertise and specialist transport planning knowledge to lead and support the delivery of major multi modal transport planning projects across Queensland. A key part of the role is to also lead and manage TMR's interface with major planning projects delivered by external agencies. Some of your responsibilities will include: - Lead, manage and support the delivery of major multi modal transport planning projects, including those identified in the Queensland Government's 2032 Delivery Plan, in accordance with TMR's OnQ Framework, Queensland Treasury's Project Assurance Framework (PAF), and Infrastructure Australia requirements.- Manage and coordinate TMR's interface with major external planning initiatives (e.g. Brisbane Metro Expansion), ensuring alignment of scope, timing, and outcomes.- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including TMR regions, local governments, and delivery partners) to achieve integrated and effective transport planning outcomes. Requirements of the role- Project Management: demonstrated experience leading and delivering complex multi modal transport planning or infrastructure projects, with the ability to manage competing priorities, risks, and stakeholder interests to achieve balanced corridor and network outcomes.- Technical Specialist: proven experience providing technical advice on major transport planning projects within structured frameworks such as PAF and/or OnQ. Demonstrated technical expertise across areas such as transport modelling, bus network development, corridor travel metric assessment, benefit identification, public and active transport planning and operations, and complex option development and assessment.- Although not mandatory, a minimum of five years' relevant experience in planning, engineering or related discipline would be desirable.
