Remote work available, East Coast Australia preferred with flexibility to work UK overlap hours. We are seeking an experienced QA Automation Lead to help build and mature the testing framework for a growing software product environment. This is not a pure consultancy role. You will need to be hands on and actively involved in testing, while also helping the business move towards a stronger QA framework, better tooling, improved automation and a more structured testing approach across the software development lifecycle. The role will work closely with development teams across Australia and the UK, reporting into the UK, with support from senior technical leadership. Key Responsibilities Assess the current QA and testing environment, identifying gaps across process, tooling, automation and test coverage Build and document a practical QA framework that supports the full software development lifecycle Perform hands on testing across web applications, APIs, integrations, regression, requirements and backend / database areas Create, maintain and improve test cases, regression packs, test evidence and defect reporting Create and maintain automated test scripts using tools such as Selenium or Playwright where applicable Drive the use of automation tools and modern testing practices Recommend and implement the right tools for the environment, including being able to explain why they fit the ecosystem Support release readiness by testing whether solutions meet business, functional and compliance requirements Work closely with developers, project managers and stakeholders across UK and Australian teams Help shape the future QA structure and define what further testing resources may be required Explore practical and secure use of AI enabled testing tools, with consideration for sensitive data and compliance requirements Key Requirements Strong testing background within a software development lifecycle Proven experience creating and maintaining automated test scripts using tools such as Selenium, Playwright or similar Proven experience across QA automation, testing tools and framework creation or uplift Hands on testing experience across front end, API, integration and regression testing Experience using tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, Selenium, Playwright, Postman, Swagger or similar Strong understanding of automation tooling and how to apply it effectively within a product development environment Ability to assess tools, make recommendations and lead the business towards better QA practices Technical understanding, with the ability to work closely with developers and understand how systems fit together Strong communication skills and confidence working with distributed teams Ability to work independently, create structure and get hands dirty when required Nice to Have Prior experience as a developer before moving into testing Experience with CI/CD and release processes Exposure to AI enabled testing tools or modern automation toolchains Experience working with sensitive data or compliance focused environments Insurance or financial services experience Brisbane based, or East Coast Australia based with flexibility to work some UK overlap hours This role would suit a Senior QA Automation Engineer, QA Automation Lead or Test Automation Lead who enjoys both hands on testing and building the structure, framework and tooling needed to improve quality across a software product environment.
