NovaCare is a respected Hunter-based not-for-profit organisation providing home and community-based care across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Lower Hunter and Port Stephens. The organisation provides a range of services across home care, respite, social support, transport, personal care, nursing, wellness and allied health, helping people access trusted, flexible and local support when they need it. The Opportunity As a Non-Executive Director, you will contribute to the stewardship, governance and strategic leadership of NovaCare during an important period of change across the aged care and community services sector. The appointments will be on the basis of a Co-Opted Appointment by the current Board until the October 2027 AGM, supporting a planned transition ahead of upcoming Director terms expiring in 2027. Working as part of a collegiate and skills-based Board, you will bring independent judgement, strategic perspective and constructive challenge to support NovaCare’s continued focus on service quality, sustainability, regulatory readiness and meaningful outcomes for clients, carers, staff and the broader Hunter community. There are two opportunities available. These appointments will strengthen the Board’s collective capability through the addition of specialist expertise in either: Clinical governance, aged care, community care, health services, nursing, allied health, quality, safety and participant outcomes; or Marketing, communications, brand strategy, stakeholder engagement, business development, growth strategy and client acquisition. Key responsibilities include: Contributing to the development, oversight and evaluation of NovaCare’s strategic direction Providing independent, informed and constructive input into Board discussions and decision-making Supporting governance of NovaCare’s “Live Your Way” approach Monitoring organisational performance across strategic, financial, quality, clinical, workforce, risk and service delivery objectives Overseeing compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, funding, governance, aged care, clinical and not-for-profit obligations Contributing to the identification and oversight of material organisational risks Constructively challenging and supporting the CEO and Executive Team through appropriate governance channels Acting as a custodian of NovaCare’s values, culture and commitment to client-focused care About You You are an experienced Board Director, Committee Member, senior executive or senior leader with sound governance judgement, strategic capability and a genuine alignment with NovaCare’s purpose. You understand the role of a Non-Executive Director and bring the ability to balance purpose, quality, risk, sustainability and impact. You are commercially and financially literate, able to interpret complex information, and confident contributing to decisions that support the long-term interests of the organisation and the communities it serves. To be successful, you will demonstrate: Experience in governance, strategy, risk, organisational performance and enterprise-level decision-making Strong understanding of the role, duties and responsibilities of a Non-Executive Director Sound financial literacy, including the ability to interpret financial reports, budgets, performance measures, risk information and sustainability indicators Demonstrated capacity to provide constructive challenge, independent judgement and considered advice Senior-level expertise in clinical governance, aged care, community care, health services, nursing, allied health, quality and safety; or marketing, communications, brand, stakeholder engagement, business development, growth strategy or client acquisition Understanding of risk, compliance and quality obligations within a regulated service environment Strong communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement capability Integrity, discretion, independence, sound judgement and a commitment to confidentiality Genuine alignment with NovaCare’s purpose, values and commitment to helping people live independently at home, stay connected to their community and continue doing the things they love Highly desirable is: Completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Company Directors Course, Governance Institute qualification or equivalent governance training Knowledge of not-for-profit governance, ACNC obligations, charitable purpose and mission-led organisational sustainability This is an opportunity to contribute your expertise to a purpose-led organisation with a strong local identity and a clear commitment to helping people remain independent, connected and supported within their own homes and communities.
