Senior Payroll Officer | Local Government | Hobart CBD | $61.36/hr Super | 3-Month Contract About the opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer for an immediate contract engagement within local government, based at a prominent office in Hobart's CBD. This is a full-time, 3-month initial contract with the potential for extension, offering a competitive casual rate of $61.36 per hour plus superannuation. Local government payroll is a unique and rewarding environment — with multiple Enterprise Agreements, Award complexity, and a broad workforce to support. Reporting into People and Culture Operations, you will take ownership of end-to-end payroll delivery, lead a small team, and serve as the subject matter expert on payroll legislation and Enterprise Agreement interpretation. Key responsibilities Lead the accurate and timely preparation and delivery of payroll and associated processes Provide expert advice to stakeholders on legislation, Awards, and Enterprise Agreements Supervise and coordinate Payroll Officers, including inbox management, task delegation, training, and backup processing support Maintain payroll data integrity and oversee administration of payroll and HRIS systems Manage employee entitlements including leave, superannuation, workers compensation, and end-of-month deduction payments Monitor and audit work rosters, attendance registers, and work arrangements Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality control measures in collaboration with People and Culture Operations Assist with analysis and reporting to meet legislative and administrative requirements About you Minimum 4 years' experience in a complex payroll environment, ideally within local government or a large organisation subject to multiple Enterprise Agreements Demonstrated knowledge of employment legislation, Superannuation Guarantee requirements, Awards, and Industry Acts Proven ability to supervise a team and build payroll capability Strong systems acumen with the ability to adapt across payroll platforms.
