This is a fast-paced and highly visible opportunity where you’ll provide strategic media and public affairs support to senior leadership, Ministers and the Prime Minister’s Office, helping shape key messaging and manage complex stakeholder engagement across government and the media landscape. The Opportunity As the APS6 Senior Media Adviser, you’ll play a key role in driving proactive media initiatives and shaping the public profile of a high-performing Federal Government agency. Be part of work that genuinely matters, where your media and communications expertise supports high-stakes national operations and delivers real-world impact Lead and contribute to strategic media activities for major initiatives and priority projects with national significance The Role Key responsibilities include: Develop media strategies, responses, releases, talking points and speeches for the Agency, Minister and Prime Minister Monitor media coverage and provide reporting, identifying and escalating emerging issues where required Manage media enquiries and act as the key liaison for journalists, interview requests and information requests Identify and drive proactive media opportunities to promote the agency’s work and key initiatives Provide communications support in fast-paced and rapidly evolving operational environments Participate in the on-call roster, with restriction allowance and overtime applicable The Ideal Person You will have a background in journalism and/or government media, with skills across the full media cycle including monitoring, drafting releases and responses, managing enquiries, and understanding the needs of broadcast, online and print. You will bring: Experience in journalism and/or government media and public affairs Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting media releases, talking points and speeches The ability to work at pace in a fast-paced environment, including crisis situations Strong organisational skills and the capacity to manage competing priorities A degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field Willingness to participate in an on-call roster Salary / Rate Permanent and temporary transfer options available via s26 for APS employees 12-month non-ongoing contract option available for non-APS employees Location: Canberra Salary: $99k - $110k 15.4% Super restriction allowance To apply for this role, you must be an Australian citizen and hold a Baseline security clearance How to Apply To apply online, please click on the appropriate link.
