The Opportunity A unique six-month contract opportunity is available for an experienced Payroll Audit Officer to join an exceptional People and Culture function. Working closely with senior payroll leadership, you will undertake two significant payroll audit projects that will directly contribute to the integrity and accuracy of employee entitlements and payroll processes. This role offers the opportunity to apply your Commonwealth payroll expertise to complex and meaningful work. Depending on your experience, the role will be engaged at APS5 or APS6 equivalent. The Role Reporting to the Payroll Director, your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Reviewing overseas conditions allowances for deployed employees Assessing entitlements using specialist remuneration and cost-of-living data Analysing historical payroll transactions on a detailed pay-by-pay basis Identifying and reconciling overpayments and underpayments Preparing clear, well-structured audit reports and recommendations Delivering a Long Service Leave audit across a large employee cohort Validating leave accruals and entitlement calculations Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and frameworks Supporting improvements to payroll controls, governance and processes The Ideal Person You’re a capable and detail-focused payroll professional who enjoys working through complex entitlement and compliance issues with accuracy and care. You bring a strong understanding of Commonwealth payroll frameworks and take pride in producing work that stands up to scrutiny, while being comfortable to work independently and manage competing priorities. Your experience with payroll systems, ideally, Aurion, with strong Excel capability allows you to work efficiently and confidently through detailed reconciliations and audits. You’ll bring sound judgement, a calm approach to sensitive matters, and the ability to communicate findings clearly and professionally.
