In this essential role, you will carry out maintenance, diagnostics, inspections and repairs on diesel-electric locomotives to ensure they are safe, reliable and fit for service. You’ll work across mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems, supporting both planned and reactive maintenance activities in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment. What you’ll be doing Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, running repairs and component change-outs. Conduct detailed inspections on traction motors, compressors, braking systems and other major locomotive components. Use OEM diagnostic software, schematics and testing equipment to fault-find and isolate issues. Complete function testing and certify locomotives as ready for service. Maintain accurate work orders, defect codes and job history within the CMMS. Follow all WHS, rail safety, isolation and safe‑working procedures at all times. Work collaboratively with operations, planning, engineering and stores to support fleet availability. Participate in continuous improvement activities and contribute to technical knowledge sharing. What you’ll bring Trade qualification: Mechanical Fitter, Diesel Fitter or Electrician (Cert III or equivalent). Experience in locomotive or heavy industrial/mobile equipment maintenance. Strong diagnostic capability using laptop tools, schematics and measurement equipment. Experience with scheduled exams, running repairs and component replacements. Ability to work safely in a shift-based, industrial environment. Effective communication skills for handovers, escalation and reporting. CMMS experience desirable; locomotive platform experience ( C44 / FDL, 710) highly regarded. Strong safety mindset and attention to quality standards. Why join us?
