SMS Group Services are currently seeking a Civil Engineering Technician (Scaffold Design and Estimation). In this permanent role, you'll provide technical engineering support in the design, documentation, estimation and coordination of scaffolding structures and construction projects. Requirements Prepare detailed technical drawings, layouts and working plans for scaffolding systems and temporary works using AutoCAD and specialised scaffold design software. Interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, specifications and relevant Australian Standards. Perform design calculations and preliminary engineering analysis relating to scaffold structures and load requirements. Assist Design Engineers with design development, review and certification processes. Maintain accurate engineering documentation including drawing registers, revision control and technical records. Conduct site inspections to obtain measurements, confirm design parameters and assess constructability requirements. Liaise with Site Supervisors, Project Managers and Engineers regarding scaffold design implementation and project progress. Provide technical support during scaffold installation and recommend design modifications where required. Prepare material take-offs, labour estimates and project cost forecasts for scaffolding works. Assist in preparing project schedules and timeframes for scaffold erection, alteration and dismantling. Analyse engineering cost data and contribute to cost control and efficiency initiatives. Ensure scaffold designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, engineering codes of practice and workplace health and safety legislation. Assist in the preparation of risk assessments, safe work method statements and quality assurance documentation. Maintain accurate compliance and inspection records in accordance with company procedures. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior design or estimating staff. Participate in project meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of design and estimating processes Qualifications, experience and licensing Certificate IV in Engineering Design, Civil Engineering Drafting or a closely related qualification. Relevant industry experience in scaffold design, temporary works or construction engineering support. Proficiency in AutoCAD and scaffold design software such as Avontus. Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret engineering specifications. Experience preparing cost estimates and technical project documentation. Knowledge of construction methods and scaffold design standards, including AS/NZS 4573:2020. Strong organisational, communication and coordination skills. Disciplined approach to record keeping and compliance with WHS and quality requirements. Current Construction White Card. Scaffolding High Risk Work Licence (desirable). Ability to travel to construction sites as required.
