Job description: Accessibility Tester Accessibility Specialist Tester An Accessibility Specialist / Tester for a Design System ensures that UI components are fully inclusive and compliant with WCAG standards before they reach production. They partner with designers and developers to catch barriers early, saving massive remediation costs later Desirable : Certifications : IAAP CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies) or WAS (Web Accessibility Specialist). We are seeking profiles with demonstrable experience in: • Manual accessibility testing (screen readers, keyboard, focus management) • WCAG 2.2 AA knowledge and communicating that knowledge to designers and developers • Designing and executing accessibility test plans • Functional and visual QA testing across web and native app environments • Providing clear, actionable accessibility defect remediation guidance to engineering teams • Experience working within or alongside design systems, High-quality accessibility specialists with strong knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, design systems and with Testing experience (including assistive technologies) A strong candidate will also be able to: • Author structured acceptance criteria and test plans for Optus design system components, covering all variants and states, across relative assistive technology and environment combinations • Operate autonomously and partner closely with design and engineering teams • Contribute to reusable guidance and accessibility documentation Key responsibilities Requirement gathering - Analyse and add accessibility defects from current state - Update and maintain the Design System accessibility defect backlog. - Audit industry best practices for accessibility across design systems. Discovery & Design Review - Align with designers and developers to align on component scope, behaviour, and accessibility expectations. - Own accessibility reviews for all component contributions across design and development phases. - Ensure design proposals align with WCAG 2.2 AA requirements prior to implementation - Advocate for inclusive design by applying accessibility expertise to influence content structure, interaction patterns, and UI/UX decisions Code & testing - Ensure components adhere to acceptance criteria - Ensure implementation follows ARIA and HTML accessibility best practices. - Design and execute comprehensive accessibility test plans across Storybook, web platforms, and native mobile applications (iOS and Android) - Perform manual and regression testing, including using JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack across desktop, mobile web, and native environments - Identify accessibility defects and document findings in clear, actionable, and prioritised reports for internal teams - Partner with developers to support remediation by providing guidance on resolving accessibility issues and validating fixes through retesting Documentation & guidance - Produce and maintain accessibility documentation and usage guidance for design system components based on user needs and industry best practices - Translate accessibility requirements and outcomes into practical guidance that supports teams in building accessible experiences consistently
