About the role The City is seeking a passionate, dynamic, and highly motivated Community Development Officer on a part-time (up to 38 hours per fortnight) fixed-term basis until June 2027, covering parental leave. You will be responsible for working in conjunction with the Community and Libraries team, consulting with relevant place-based staff for the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of relevant strategies, services and programs to ensure strong, self-reliant and capable communities are realised. In this role, you'll connect with diverse community groups, co-design initiatives, and deliver programs that build capacity, belonging and resilience. Whether it’s running a community training programs, supporting local multicultural events or working on social inclusion strategies, you’ll be right at the heart of positive change. Under the guidance of the Community Development Coordinator, you will work towards developing a healthy and connected community through the delivery of community led initiatives, providing opportunities for engagement, and developing partnerships which address gaps, and meet unique place needs. You’ll do this though: Building community capacity and leadership Engaging with the community Developing community partnerships Inclusion of the whole community Activating places, and Advocating community needs. This position has a Gender Diversity lead/focus, is based in the Midland Office and has a number of suburbs in the Midland area to support. The Community Development Officer role may also be required to work within different Place Area’s dependent on operational need. Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to: Develop and deliver approved programs and initiatives as determined by relevant plans and strategies Actively develop community partnerships to meet priorities and address community need Actively provide specialist advice and maintain up to date information regarding portfolio area Contribute to the development of business unit plans and strategies Conduct required consultation and engagement activities to increase community participation Conduct evaluation of programs as required and provide regular updates and reports to Coordinator Community Development Work with relevant staff and stakeholders (community groups and clubs, not for profits, government and non-government organisations) to identify and attract service provision opportunities to meet the particular local needs. About you You’ll be someone who: Brings a community-first mindset and strong facilitation skills Has experience in place-based or age-friendly work (or both!) Builds trust easily and enjoys working with people from all walks of life Thrives in collaborative, creative environments Understands how to translate ideas into meaningful action The successful candidate will have the following: Tertiary qualification in a relevant human services discipline Substantial experience developing and consulting with community groups and organisations, and providing ongoing support, guidance and assistance Extensive understanding of contemporary community development theory, legislation, policy and practice Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence Current Working with Children Check A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.
