This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a range of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring all work meets manufacturer specifications, Australian safety standards, and workshop procedures. Job Description Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment, technical manuals, and specialist tools to identify faults and recommend appropriate repair solutions. Inspect engines, transmissions, suspension systems, steering assemblies, braking systems, and other mechanical components to assess damage resulting from vehicle collisions or general wear. Conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections to assess overall mechanical condition and identify safety risks, mechanical faults, or required maintenance. Remove, dismantle, repair, and refit mechanical components including engines, gearboxes, suspension systems, steering assemblies, cooling systems, and braking systems. Carry out repairs and replacements of faulty or damaged components in accordance with manufacturer specifications, workshop procedures, and Australian safety standards. Perform mechanical servicing tasks including oil changes, fluid checks, lubrication, and replacement of filters to maintain optimal vehicle performance. Undertake tune-ups and adjustments to engine management systems, fuel systems, ignition systems, and exhaust systems to optimise performance and fuel efficiency. Assist smash repair technicians by removing and reinstalling mechanical components to facilitate panel and structural repairs. Repair or replace mechanical components damaged as a result of vehicle accidents, including suspension components, steering mechanisms, cooling systems, and engine assemblies. Perform post-repair mechanical testing and inspections to ensure vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and operating correctly prior to delivery to customers or insurers. Use diagnostic tools and equipment to test vehicle systems and verify that mechanical issues have been resolved following repairs. Maintain accurate service records including diagnostic findings, parts used, labour performed, and repair procedures in accordance with workshop and regulatory requirements. Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with workplace health and safety regulations and workshop procedures. Qualifications / Attributes Must hold a Certificate III in Automotive Technology or a relevant Certificate III, or at least three (3) years of relevant work experience may substitute for the formal qualification. Must possess at least three (3) years of relevant work experience as a Motor Mechanic or in a similar role. Must have proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools, and computerised systems for vehicle diagnosis and repair. Sound knowledge of vehicle systems and components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and suspension systems. Salary $75,000 – $95,000 per annum excluding superannuation.
