The Role The Welder (First Class) is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal components and structures using a range of welding and fabrication techniques in This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $78,000 to $81,000 plus superannuation. The Responsibilities Manufacture and repair metal components using various welding methods Read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications to understand job requirements Choose and prepare appropriate metal materials for fabrication Cut and shape metal pieces using hand tools, cutting torches, and machinery Form and bend metal sections and pipes using mechanical tools and heat-based techniques Position and align parts accurately using measuring instruments and hand tools Assemble metal components through welding, bolting, and riveting processes Check completed welds for strength, precision, and proper finish Carry out finishing processes such as polishing, filing, and chemical treatments Smooth and refine welds using grinding, chiselling, and filing techniques Operate welding equipment, fabrication machinery, and workshop tools safely and efficiently Ensure fabrication and welding activities comply with workplace safety procedures and engineering standards The Requirements Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade or equivalent qualification Certificate IV in Engineering or equivalent advanced fabrication qualification Minimum 3 years' experience as a Welder (First Class) or within metal fabrication environments At least 3 years' experience performing MIG welding across structural steel and fabricated metal components Minimum 3 years' experience interpreting engineering drawings, fabrication plans, and technical specifications At least 3 years' experience operating fabrication machinery, welding equipment, and metalworking tools At least 3 years' experience assembling, repairing, and finishing fabricated metal products to engineering standards Strong knowledge of welding procedures, fabrication methods, and metal finishing techniques Ability to identify welding defects, dimensional inconsistencies, and fabrication issues accurately Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures, fabrication compliance standards, and workshop operations Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within fabrication and engineering teams High attention to detail and commitment to precision workmanship
