About the Division The Finance Operations division provides a key foundation to ensuring sound financial decision making by AEMO leadership and is critical to AEMO maintaining strong support from stakeholders for its mission by ensuring the robustness of information underpinning revenue, cost management, and funding requests. What you will be doing Join a collaborative team of eight supporting transactional accounting and month end close activities across a complex and fast-paced environment. Reporting to a supportive and approachable Manager this role will suit someone who enjoys building relationships, working both autonomously and as part of a team. The Assistant Accountant will provide support to the Senior Financial Accountant and Manager of Accounting Operations to maintain a full trial balance. There will be a focus on balance sheet reconciliations and month end reporting requirements. Relationships will have to be kept with cost centre owners, alongside support the wider finance team as required. Key responsibilities include preparing and posting manual journals, developing prepayment and accrual schedules in partnership with the business, and supporting month-end transactional analysis alongside the wider Finance Operations team and Finance Business Partners. The role will also prepare balance sheet reconciliations, undertake P&L and balance sheet reviews across segments and departments, process treasury banking payment files and supporting documentation, and contribute to consolidation and analytical reporting activities. Success in the role will be measured through the timely and accurate processing of transactions, completion of month-end activities within agreed timelines, high-quality balance sheet reconciliations, and the provision of meaningful transactional analysis across assigned areas of responsibility. What you will bring to the role Education/Certificates Degree in Business Management, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or related field Ideally Qualified/ part qualified member of an appropriate professional accounting body e.g.: CA/CPA or international equivalent. Experience & Knowledge Strong accounting or bookkeeping foundation with month-end experience Understanding of accounting standards and project accounting practices Advanced Excel skills with ability to analyse large data sets. Exposure to accounting systems such as Microsoft Dynamics or similar Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and interpersonal skills Self-motivated with ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines.
