Our Applied Technology (TAS) department is home to some seriously awesome, top-tier wood and metal workshops. Right now, we are looking for a safety-minded, hands-on TAS Faculty Assistant to join our team and help mentor the next generation of designers, creators, and tradespeople. The Role You'll be the heartbeat of our wood and metal workshops, working alongside our talented TAS teachers to support students to be their best whilst staying safe. You will have an eye for quality and detail that will help you look after our machinery, and make sure we're fully stocked with materials. This diverse part time role working three (3) days per week in school hours, will provide the opportunity for you to mix your handy trade skills with student mentoring, safety management, and a bit of behind-the-scenes admin. What You'll Be Doing Mentoring Students: Support all students to be at their very best and leading by example. Maintaining Safety: Making sure students are working safely, wearing their PPE, and following the workshop rules. Demonstrating Excellence: Running small-group or one-on-one demonstrations to teach students how to safely use hand tools, power tools, and big machinery. Bringing Projects to Life: Working with students on their designs, offering tips on woodwork or metalwork techniques, and helping prep timber or metal before class starts. Tool Care: Completing daily safety checks on tools and equipment. Machinery Maintenance: Keeping the workshop running smoothly with routine servicing (like oiling parts and checking filters) on machines, laser cutters, and dust extraction systems. Safety Rules: Keeping the chemical folders, safety sheets (MSDS), and machine logs up to date and aligned to safety standards. Finance Processes: Obtaining quotes as required, collecting teacher requests, and ordering materials using our school's purchasing system. Organising the Space: Receiving deliveries and keep our timber, metal sheets, and off-cuts sorted and safely stored away. Help guide and coordinate other support staff in the department as and when needed. About You We are looking for someone who has solid trade experience and genuinely loves the idea of working in a school community helping our students be world prepared. You will have; A trade qualification in a related field (like Carpentry, Cabinetmaking, Metal Fabrication, Fitting & Turning, or similar) and some real-world experience to match. Familiarity with WHS requirements, chemical safety, and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), A First Aid certificate, recent Fire Safety training, and a valid Class C Driver's Licence, A current NSW Working with Children Check. The perfect candidate is; A great communicator with a patient, friendly, "student-first" attitude, Confident and committed to Child Safety protocols within a school context, Highly organised, and know how to prioritise, Proactive with plenty of initiative, Adaptable to change and can pivot quickly with a smile, Comfortable using computers (Macs or PCs) for everyday tasks, Happy to support our warm Anglican school values.
