The Manager Security Engineering leads the design, implementation and ongoing operation of the Bank’s core security engineering capabilities to protect systems, applications and data across on‑premises, cloud and hybrid environments. The role ensures security technologies and controls are effectively engineered, integrated and maintained to reduce cyber risk, support regulatory compliance and enable secure technology transformation. Providing technical leadership to the security engineering team, the role partners with Security Architecture, Security Operations, Technology and external stakeholders to embed security‑by‑design principles and deliver resilient, scalable and effective security solutions. What you will be doing Lead the design, implementation and ongoing operation of security engineering capabilities across on‑premise, cloud and hybrid environments. Provide technical leadership to optimise security infrastructure, driving automation, performance and scalability of security platforms and tools. Ensure security controls are effectively designed and integrated into technology solutions, embedding security‑by‑design principles. Oversee vulnerability management and assessment activities, identifying risks and implementing remediation strategies. Lead penetration testing capabilities and activities, ensuring effective testing approaches and continuous improvement of security practices. Define and implement security controls aligned to regulatory requirements (e.g. CPS 234, ISO 27001, SOC2) and organisational risk management frameworks. Partner with Risk, Audit and Technology teams to support assurance activities, reporting, and compliance outcomes. Lead and develop the security engineering team, building capability, managing performance and fostering strong stakeholder and vendor relationships. What you will bring Strong leadership and accountability, with the ability to operate autonomously, set direction and deliver security engineering outcomes. Proven ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across Technology, Security, business teams and external partners. Deep expertise in security engineering across infrastructure, cloud (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and application security environments. Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capability, able to assess complex issues and implement effective, risk‑aligned solutions. Clear communication skills, translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights for both technical and non‑technical audiences. Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams, managing performance and driving capability uplift across distributed environments. Strong understanding of security technologies, controls and governance, with experience aligning solutions to regulatory and operational requirements. Extensive experience in security engineering leadership roles, with relevant qualifications or certifications highly regarded and financial services experience beneficial.
