Position Title: TUMRA Coordinator – Yuwi Sea Country Program Location: Mackay Region Remuneration: Negotiable dependent on previous experience in a similar role superannuation Hours of Work: An average of 38 hours per week each fortnight Reports to: Project Manager, Yuwi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC / Yuwi TUMRA Steering Committee Employment: Full time 12-month fixed term contract with the option to renew for a further 12 months by mutual consent, subject to ongoing funding and performance requirements under the TUMRA Agreement Probation: A probationary period of 6 months will apply Housing: Not provided ABOUT US The Yuwi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (ICN 8608), known as YAC, is the representative body for the Yuwi People and was registered in February 2020 under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act). YAC works across land and sea country management, cultural heritage protection, governance, environmental management, ranger programs, and Traditional Owner engagement to ensure Yuwi culture, knowledge, and responsibilities continue for future generations. BACKGROUND The Yuwi Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreement (TUMRA) is funded through the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) and supports the development and implementation of culturally appropriate sea country management activities across Yuwi Sea Country. Yuwi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC is seeking a motivated and experienced TUMRA Coordinator to lead the coordination, implementation, reporting, and development of the Yuwi TUMRA Program. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Coordinate the implementation of the Yuwi TUMRA workplan and associated sea country activities • Support the development and implementation of annual project plans, budgets, and reporting requirements • Work closely with the Yuwi TUMRA Steering Committee, Elders, and Traditional Owners • Coordinate sea country monitoring and compliance awareness activities • Prepare reports, meeting minutes, and funding acquittals • Coordinate logistics, meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement activities • Foster positive working relationships with agencies and community organisations • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with WHS and cultural heritage protocols STATEMENT OF DUTIES • Coordinate the delivery of annual TUMRA work plans and project milestones • Assist with annual project plans, mid-year reports, and annual reports • Organise and facilitate TUMRA Steering Committee meetings • Coordinate marine monitoring and cultural heritage activities • Support culturally appropriate hunting and harvesting protocols • Work collaboratively with Yuwi Rangers and staff • Assist with grant management and budget tracking • Undertake other duties as reasonably directed by the Project Manager ABOUT YOU • Experience working in Indigenous land and sea management, community programs, or environmental projects • Understanding of Aboriginal cultural values and sea country management • Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills • Ability to work respectfully with Elders and community members • Current driver’s licence • Ability to obtain relevant clearances including police check and Blue Card if required • Boat licence, drone licence, first aid, and Coxswain qualifications would be advantageous SELECTION CRITERIA SC1: Demonstrated understanding and experience in Indigenous land and sea management or community-based projects. SC2: Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities, meetings, logistics, reporting, and stakeholder engagement. SC3: Ability to work respectfully with Traditional Owners, Elders, community members, and external agencies. SC4: Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records. SC5: Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and contribute positively within a team environment. SC6: Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and data management systems.
