Role: WEC Drilling Product Engineer Location: Perth WA Type of contract: Permanent Roster: Full Time/ Permanent Job Description: The Well Construction Drilling Product Engineer is responsible for assisting the Product Service Delivery (PSD) team to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable drill bit product and service solutions across the Australia and Papua New Guinea region. The WEC Drilling Product Engineer develops and delivers technically optimised bit designs for diverse formation environments, including coal seam gas, carbonate, and interbedded hard-rock applications. This person identifies opportunities for continuous improvement of service delivery, formally communicates findings, and supports the WEC Business Line in risk management and applies lessons learned to improve job design. The WEC Drilling Product Engineer provides real-time support to PSD operations as required and is responsible for cost-of-service delivery. Successful position holders are excellent communicators, enjoy solving problems, and work well in teams. They are technically rigorous engineers who can translate complex bit design and formation analysis into clear, actionable recommendations for both field teams and customer stakeholders. They are comfortable managing multiple concurrent operations across diverse basins and can pivot quickly between real-time field support and longer-term design or tender work. They build strong relationships with directional drillers, client drilling engineers, and head quarter design team, and are confident presenting technology value to operators at all levels. A proactive approach to identifying continuous improvement opportunities, capturing lessons learned, and driving new technology adoption is essential to succeeding in this role. Roles and Responsibilities: Develop technical bit and drilling tool job designs, including PDC bit selection, BHA configuration, and drilling parameter recommendations for Well Construction operations. Identify areas where new and cost-effective drill bit technologies and cutter solutions can be applied to improve ROP, dull grade, and overall drilling performance. Explore opportunities for value-added products and services, including advanced cutter upgrades, new bit technology trials, and integrated bit and drilling tool solutions. Provide technical support throughout the service delivery process, including pre-job bit selection, real-time operational support, and post-run dull analysis. Understand and communicate the value of drill bit technology and performance data to customers and internal stakeholders through case studies and technical presentations. Consult with relevant subject matter experts and HQ/CPC design engineers as required to optimise bit design, cutter selection, and gauge protection solutions. Support the PSD Manager in the execution phase with bit and drilling tool design changes as required due to changes in job dimensions, resource availability, service quality incidents, etc. Assist in incident response, recovery, and investigation related to drill bit and drilling tool service quality events. Support multiple Business Line operations in a collaborative and optimised bit and drilling tool job design. Assist the sales and commercial team in evaluating technical viability of drill bit and drilling tool solutions for tenders and proposals. Analyze job execution vs. design and formally capture drill bit performance improvements and optimisation opportunities as lessons learned and best practices. Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or related engineering discipline. Minimum 1 year of experience in drill bit engineering, drilling tools, or oilfield services, including exposure to bit selection, run report preparation, and post-run analysis. Knowledge of downhole drilling tools and real-time data acquisition systems, including experience working with MWD/LWD tools and field operations. Experience collaborating with customers and vendors in a technical capacity, including preparation and delivery of technical reports and presentations to support drilling operations. Exposure to field operations in an oilfield services environment, with demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and safe work practices on-site. Desirable: Exposure to drill bit design and customer-facing technical reporting; experience working with both engineering and commercial teams in an oilfield services environment.
