Role Purpose The Chef is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality meals in line with the business’s menu, service standards, and food safety obligations. This role supports the effective operation of the kitchen by contributing to menu execution, stock control, kitchen hygiene, staff coordination, and continuous improvement of food quality and service efficiency. Key Responsibilities Prepare, cook, and present dishes according to approved recipes, portion standards, and service timelines. Plan and organise daily kitchen preparation to support smooth lunch, dinner, and peak service periods. Assist with menu development, seasonal specials, and improvements to food quality and presentation. Monitor food stock levels, assist with ordering, and reduce waste through effective inventory control. Ensure all food is stored, handled, labelled, and prepared in accordance with food safety requirements. Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment in line with hygiene and workplace safety standards. Operate kitchen equipment safely and report maintenance or safety issues promptly. Coordinate with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure timely and accurate food service. Check the quality, freshness, and presentation of ingredients and finished meals. Support training and guidance of junior kitchen staff where required. Follow cost control practices, including portion control and efficient use of ingredients. Maintain records relevant to food safety, stock rotation, cleaning, and kitchen operations. Contribute to continuous improvement of kitchen processes, service efficiency, and customer satisfaction. What We Are Looking For Minimum one (1) year of relevant work experience in a commercial kitchen environment. Relevant qualification in commercial cookery, hospitality, culinary arts, or a related field, such as a Certificate III/IV, Diploma, or higher. Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen operations, and safe food handling practices. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced hospitality environment. Good communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with kitchen and service teams. Understanding of Australian food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards.
