Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science is an eminent WA not-for-profit medical research institute located on the QEII Medical Centre campus, Nedlands. About the Role The Clinical/Infusion Nurse is responsible for supporting clinical studies by consenting patients and collecting clinical samples, as well as administration of injectable therapies—including intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous infusions—within both clinical and research environments. The Clinical/Infusion Nurse will deliver protocol-driven care with a strong focus on patient safety, data accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and ethical standards. The role is offered on a fixed term part-time (0.6 FTE) basis (initial 12-month contract with the possibility of extension). Key Responsibilities Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for research participants. Assess participant eligibility and support enrolment activities in line with study protocols and ICH-GCP. Educate research participants on procedures, treatments, and potential side effects. Collect, process, and manage biological samples for research purposes, including performing venepuncture, directing participants in midstream urine collection, and undertaking skin biopsies under sterile conditions with appropriate pain management and wound care follow-up, ensuring all samples and associated documentations are handled in accordance with study protocols. Label, store, and transport biological samples in compliance with biosafety and research regulations. Prepare, check, and handle investigational medicinal products in accordance with protocols and SOPs. Administer medications and investigational products via Intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, subcutaneous infusions, and Peripheral and/or central intravenous (IV) infusions. Monitor patients before, during, and after infusions. Recognise, manage, and escalate infusion-related complications promptly. Accurately document medication administration, observations, and adverse events. Perform other investigations as required by clinical research and trial protocols. Ensure strict adherence to clinical trial protocols, GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate and timely source documentation and case report forms. Support data entry into study databases where appropriate. Adhere to study protocols, GCP, and Perron Institute ethics and governance requirements. Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the study team, investigators, and other healthcare/research professionals in the clinic and beyond. Maintain equipment and clinical spaces to ensure a safe and functional work environment. Assist with ordering clinical supplies and managing inventory as required. Skills and Experience Tertiary Qualification in Nursing e.g. Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse. Confidence and competency in performing or learning to perform minor procedures (e.g. skin biopsies). Infusion training and competency. Certification in GCP (or willingness to undertake training). Demonstrated experience in venepuncture and clinical sample collection. Understanding of research ethics, informed consent, and GCP principles. Previous experience in a clinical research environment and a basic understanding of clinical laboratory sample processing would be highly regarded.
