About the role Are you a dynamic editorial leader ready to shape the stories that Australian women talk about every single day? As our Head of News and Features, you will lead Mamamia's News and Features Team, driving the editorial vision, relevance, and reach across our digital platforms. Based in Sydney and reporting to the Editor in Chief, this role is all about jumping on the big cultural moments, commissioning standout stories, and keeping us at the centre of the conversation. Crucially, you need to be someone who thrives in a breaking news environment. Someone who can steer the ship during high-stakes stories, keeping our coverage swift, engaging, and legally sound. Here's some of the stuff you can expect to be doing if you join us: Lead and execute our news and features content strategy across written, podcast, social, and newsletter platforms. Run a fast-paced breaking news environment, leading an agile team on a rotating out-of-hours roster to deliver original, timely coverage that lands right 'in her world'. Mentor and develop a high-performing editorial team, keeping team engagement high and culture collaborative. Drive regular pitch meetings to generate innovative ideas, big culturally relevant stories, and brand fame pieces. Commission and edit high-impact long-form features, deep-dive investigations, and premium real-life stories. Source and commission exclusive content from established marquee writers and fresh new talent. Oversee and build out subscriber-exclusive content to keep growing our premium audience. Act as the ultimate brand custodian, rigorously checking all news and features content for legal, ethical, and editorial accuracy. Use data-driven audience insights to evolve our news offering and collaborate with our podcast and social teams to keep our content cohesive. Now, a bit about you A seasoned media professional with a minimum of 8 years of experience in features, news, or digital journalism. Deep, proven experience working in fast-moving breaking news environments, with the ability to handle high-pressure situations with a calm head. Tertiary qualifications in Journalism, Media, Communications, or a similar field. A strong track record of commissioning, editing, and leading high-performing editorial teams. Expert knowledge of media law, journalistic ethics, and editorial best practice to safely guide daily news reporting. Outstanding news sense and editorial judgment, with experience producing premium, subscriber, or long-form content. Highly collaborative and commercially minded, with a strong ability to use data and audience insights to grow our digital footprint. A proactive, strategic thinker who is genuinely passionate about telling great stories that connect with women.
