The Opportunity This is a 6-month APS4 opportunity within a busy and supportive People team, focused on delivering high-quality support across pay and conditions enquiries. It is well suited to someone who enjoys working in a structured, service-focused environment where attention to detail and responsiveness really matter. You will be the first point of contact for a range of employee queries relating to pay, leave and conditions, providing clear and accurate advice and escalating more complex matters where required. While this role does not involve formal payroll processing, prior APS payroll experience will be highly valued as it will support your ability to investigate and resolve enquiries effectively. A key part of this role is interpreting and applying policy at a basic level, so someone who is comfortable working with guidance material and developing a sound understanding of HR frameworks will thrive in this position. The Role The APS4 People Advisor (Pay & Conditions) will support the delivery of employee services and HR advisory support. Key responsibilities include: Responding to general employee enquiries relating to pay, leave and conditions Interpreting and applying policies, guidelines and employment conditions at a basic level Investigating and resolving employee queries, escalating complex matters as required Liaising with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely information is provided Supporting the maintenance of accurate HR records and documentation Assisting in identifying and resolving discrepancies in employee-related information Contributing to process improvements and updates to guidance material Supporting broader People team priorities as required The Ideal Person You are a capable and detail-oriented HR or payroll support professional who enjoys helping people and resolving queries in a timely and accurate way. You ideally bring prior APS payroll experience, which will support your ability to understand and investigate employee enquiries effectively. You are confident working with policies and guidance material and have the ability to interpret information at a basic level to provide clear and practical advice. You are organised, responsive and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift. You bring a strong customer service mindset, communicate clearly and professionally, and are willing to learn and develop your understanding of HR systems and frameworks. Experience in payroll, HR administration or employee services within the APS or a similar environment will be highly regarded.
