Senior Design Engineer - Structural, Mechanical & Piping (SMP) Southeast Melbourne, VIC Competitive Salary Career Development Opportunities Major Energy & Infrastructure Projects An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Design Engineer - SMP to join a growing Energy & Infrastructure team delivering large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for a technically strong and solutions-focused engineer with extensive experience across Structural, Mechanical & Piping disciplines within energy, mining, oil & gas, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments. You will play a key role in the design, coordination, and delivery of complex SMP engineering packages, working closely with project managers, construction teams, and clients to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality project outcomes. About the Role Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading engineering and design activities across SMP scopes from concept through detailed design and construction support. You will provide technical leadership, ensure engineering quality, and contribute to the successful delivery of major projects across the energy and infrastructure sector. Key Responsibilities Lead structural, mechanical, and piping design activities across multiple projects Prepare and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, codes, and client requirements Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering interfaces and design integration Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and designers Support procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning activities Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and constructability reviews Liaise with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders Assist with project planning, scheduling, and engineering deliverables management Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices About You To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate: Degree qualification in Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering Extensive experience in SMP design engineering within industrial or infrastructure sectors Strong understanding of structural steel, piping systems, mechanical equipment, and fabrication processes Experience working on large-scale energy, mining, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects Excellent technical problem-solving and analytical skills Strong communication and stakeholder management capability Ability to work across multidisciplinary project teams Knowledge of Australian engineering standards and compliance requirements Software & Systems Highly regarded experience includes: AutoCAD Navisworks SolidWorks or similar 3D modelling software STAAD.Pro or structural analysis software Microsoft Office Suite What's on Offer Work on major energy and infrastructure projects Collaborative and supportive engineering team Long-term career progression opportunities Competitive salary package Dynamic and technically challenging project environment If you are a motivated SMP Design Engineer looking to contribute to high-profile projects within a growing organisation, we would like to hear from you.
